From Homeless to Security
Working 6 Days a Week!
Born in PNG, Robin lived in Ipswich and was mixing in the wrong circles before then becoming homeless in Brisbane and drinking heavily.
In 2014, he took himself to Mental Health and they referred him to rebab for 3 months during which he says he got help to break the cycle.
He then volunteered at the Homeless Shelter in the Valley as his way of “giving back”.
Jeff Chaseling at Sarina Russo Fortitude Valley saw his potential and helped get him a job in hospitality at Rydges Hotel, Fortitude Valley as a mini bar attendant 2015-2018.
Robin says, “It was tough, but I stayed off the booze”.
Jeff at Sarina Russo then referred him to Asset College to try security, where he met Mike Addicott at a Security Career Info Session and decided to give it a go.
He was worried about his minor past criminal history but obtained his Security Licence a month or two after completing his Certificate III in Security Operations at Asset College.
“Doing security through ASSET helped change my life”
Robin said.
Robin now has stable employment and accommodation, working 6 days a week with CAP security at multiple venues.
He works at a diverse range of venues including Breakfast Creek Hotel weekends, Australian National Hotel weekdays, concerts like EMINEM, football games – State of Origin, 20-20 Bash and many more.
‘It’s great as many clients ask for me direct and I love my job!”
Robin is proud to have been clean from alcohol for 5 years and is so proud to have stable accommodation with his life is on track.
“Just having a rental history has made life easier and I’m now able to save some money”
“Security has helped to change my life. Thank you Mike Addicott, Lynn Meecham and the team at Asset for helping me get through the course and helping me get to the next step in my life. “
Thank you to Robin for allowing us to share his story.
