Asset College was excited to be involved in HELP Enterprises first 2021 Somerset Deadly Gathering. The series of events is aimed at bringing together first nations job seekers with training providers and employers to provide unique opportunities for our indigenous community. 

Help Employment rallied several key employers and training providers for this event. The event was well attended with many expressing an interest in security as a career. 

At this event, Asset College shared the many opportunities for employment across the growing security sector with key employment partners such as Wilson Security and MSS Security both of which support the Australian Government’s Employment Parity Initiative (EPI) designed to boost Indigenous employment across the security sector. The EPI aims to increase the number of large Australian companies with a workforce that reflects the size of the Indigenous population. 

“Great to see Deadly Gatherings such as this. Most we spoke to had never considered or understood the exciting employment opportunities available. We value our commitment to Indigenous Employment outcomes and we are pleased to be supporting those individuals to move forward into employment,” said Mike Addicott, National Sales and Client Services Manager for Asset College.

Asset College has an ongoing interest in and commitment to assisting indigenous communities through programs such as the Mount Isa Security Careers (Training to Recruitment Pathway) Program; increasing employment outcomes for Indigenous and non-indigenous residents of Mount Isa.  

The Mount Isa Security Careers Program saw Asset College partner with MSS Security to assist in the recruitment and training of suitable candidates in the Mount Isa area to help meet the growing needs of the security sector in this region.  

The program was tremendous success with over 80% of participants gaining employment with MSS upon completion. And two promising indigenous participants were selected for the STEP program with MSS.  

The STEPS Supervisor Program (Supported Training and Experience Pathways for Success) is delivered over 18 months and designed to facilitate leadership training for career progression. The program includes a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and prepares employees for management positions in MSS Security.

Asset College also ran the Cherbourg Security program which saw 15 local first nations recruits go through the Certificate III in Security Operations training with ASSET in a targeted program that provided employment outcomes through Kingaroy Security. The program focused on an outcome of security and safety by the community for the community.  

At ASSET we are always looking for ways to support and uplift our Indigenous communities and we really enjoyed the opportunity to get deadly with HELP Enterprises!
