But if you’ve never breached the boundaries of the security sector before you might be wondering how to become a security guard.

The great thing about security is it’s a sector that doesn’t discriminate based on age or experience. You can be 26 or 60 and still get started in this thriving industry.

That being said there are few things you’ll need to get started.

Getting Qualified as a Security Guard

Security guards are required to hold a Certificate II in Security Operations. This is the certificate you’ll need to apply for your security guard licence.

The Certificate II in Security Operations is offered through an 8 day face to face workshop with some online study required. It includes your Provide First Aid Certificate which is also a requirement of the licence.

ASSET offers this course at our Logan, Gold Coast, North Lakes, Townsville and Tasmania campuses. If you’re looking for training in other areas, please still contact us and we can try to assist with a custom course.

Applying for your Security Guard Licence

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll need to apply for your security guard licence with the Office of Fair Trading.

The application can take up to 2 months to be processed depending on how many applications are currently in the line for processing with the Office of Fair Trading.
