About NSW Government Funding

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It’s helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

• an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
• government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

Under the Smart and Skilled program, Asset College has been approved to deliver a number of key qualifications to eligible NSW participants.

Asset College has been approved to deliver the following qualifications under NSW Smart and Skilled funding.

Qualifications are subject to availability in defined Smart and Skilled regions and may not be available if the financial cap has been or is likely to be exceeded. Please contact us to enquire.

• AVI20118 Certificate II in Transport Security Protection

Please note. While training for AVI20118 Certificate II in Transport Security Protection is fee-free fo eligible participants under Smart and Skilled funding, students are required to pay for their own Job Ready ASIC check. The cost of this application is $200.20.

Applicants will need to meet all the eligibility requirements for Smart and Skilled funding.

Smart and Skilled Eligibility

• Be 15 years of age or older
• Living or working in NSW
• an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
• No longer at school (with the exception of registered home schooled students)

There are also some exceptions to the eligibility conditions described above, such as for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in specific, defined areas outside the NSW border.

Your eligibility is not affected if you have completed a vocational education and training (VET) course, including a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship, as part of your high school education.

1. Review the course information and information on this page and then contact us if you require any clarification regarding the course content, inclusions, outcomes, policies and procedures, entry requirements, attendance requirements or pathways.
2. Submit your application online here.
3. Undertake the Online Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment.
4. Your application will be assessed by Asset College’s Compliance Team and you will receive a written response usually within 3 – 5 days.
5. Sign your training plan.
6. Commence your course.

The prospective student will be asked to provide consent to the enrolment process including the declaration of disclosing private information to the NSW Government during the enrolment process.

The student will also be required to declare that they have provided accurate and complete information, are aware of any subcontracting arrangements (if applicable) and have been provided with the Fee information relevant to their enrolment and all appropriate student information.

The student will also be required to confirm that a notification of Enrolment process has not concurrently been completed for the same qualification and/or the same units of competency for the same or other qualifications(s).

All students enrolling in a Smart and Skilled course will be required to supply a Unique Student Identifier and will be requested to do so on their enrolment form. More information about the Unique Student Identifier can be found here.

All students are entitled to seek recognition of prior learning (RPL) as an alternative means of establishing competency for all or part of their course. Additionally, Asset College will recognise Statements of Attainment issued by other RTOs and will grant credit towards the Smart and Skilled qualifications for current and equivalent units of competency.

Students who wish to defer or discontinue a Smart and Skilled course must do so in writing to Asset College via email to admin@asset.edu.au or via post to PO Box 350, North Lakes QLD 4509. The student will be provided with any statements of attainment completed and an updated training plan.

Applications are subject to approval by Asset College’s Head Office. Submitting a completed application does not guarantee approval of funding. Training cannot commence until you have received written confirmation of your application being approved.

1. Availability of funding is subject to change without notice at the discretion of the New South Wales Government.
2. Participants must provide additional information / feedback to Asset College within three months of completing their qualification.
3. Applicants who are registered Job Seekers should consult their Workforce Australia Provider prior to submitting an application. Your Workforce Australia Provider may be able to provide additional support services.
4. Additional terms and conditions will be outlined on the application forms and are subject to change.
5. Participants are required to submit and pay for their own industry licence applications (where applicable). These are not included in the funding program.
6. Students can only access the Smart and Skilled program through approved training providers.
