From Bus Driver to Race Car Driver – via a career in security

Full Time Security Jobs Are A Reality and a Life Changer!

John, from Carina, first attended a security career info session with Asset College via Max Employment in December 2017.

“After attending the Info Session, I knew these guys knew what they were talking about,” John says.

At 63, after 10 years of driving buses for a living, and being majorly under-employed for the past couple of years, John was looking for a career that would give him real employment.

He enrolled into the Certificate III in Security Operations in January and subsequently received his security licence in March 2018.

He quickly signed up to our complimentary post-training employment coaching service and was soon after invited to our Employer Connection events with Securecorp and Wilson Security.

“After the awesome pre-employment tips and advice from Mike and the team at ASSET, I felt like a million dollars at each of the Employer Connection Events and nailed both jobs. The service from ASSET is beyond awesome”.

He was successful with both!

Initially as a Rail Security Officer on weekends with Securecorp and in April as a Casual Security Guard with Wilson Security at a bank in Surfers Paradise doing around 30 hours a week.

“I really enjoyed the engagement with people, players, competitors and regulars at the bank, it was a hoot!”

Now after a couple of months, Wilson Security offered John permanent work at the Gate House in Morningside – only 6Km from his home.

Working on the train ?Friday and Saturday nights, SECUREcorp and through the week through my positive good work over the Commonwealth Games. Peter at Wilson Security wants to give me permanent work with a new contract 6ks from home at Morningside. I really like what I do ✅. I got you to thank so much. My shout when we catch up.

He is now employed 36 hours a week with Wilson Security, plus still maintains his duties with Securecorp, 2 shifts a week as he loves it!

“Asset College has been a game changer for me! I finally am earning and enjoying what I do. I’m so glad I took the time back in December to attend the Info Session. Everything they said has come true. It’s gave me a new lease of life.”

Recently with his new level of income, John achieved a life-long dream – racing at QLD Raceway at Willowbank!
