From Logistics to Security

Student Success Story: Stuart Young

Stuart Young has spent most of his working life in the logistics and warehousing industry. When he recently lost his job, he saw an opportunity to explore a field that had always intrigued him.

“Most of my working career has been in warehousing and logistics, mainly in the fastening industry (bolts, nuts, screws…..)”.

But, as Stuart explained he had always wanted to work in security.

“I have always had an interest in security since I was young, but found that I was happy doing what I was doing in warehousing. When I recently lost my job, my first thought was to get into a security course. I’m so glad that I went to one of the Free Career Information Sessions at ASSET. After I did, I knew this was for me.”

Stuart found that the training helped him to feel prepared for the challenges ahead.

“The training I had with ASSET was very professional and comprehensive.”

And he was full of praise for his trainer Lynn Meecham.

“My trainer Lynn has a wealth of knowledge in the security industry, and she made every day at training enjoyable and even fun at times.”

After the training was done and he had gained his licence, Stuart found an ASSET education was a real bonus out there in the workforce. He found a job almost right away.

“My first shift is coming up this Saturday, and I’m looking forward to it very much. I know I’m going to enjoy working at different venues and events and meeting new people.”

We asked Stuart what would you recommend for anyone interested in getting into security and he shared these words of wisdom with us.

“The best tip that I could give anyone is to go along to a Free Career Information Session at Asset College. After this very informative session, you will be able to know if the security industry is for you. It gives a great overview of the industry and explains many different security roles in different sectors. Very valuable.”

If you’re interested in joining one of our free information sessions to learn more about where security could take you, we run them weekly at our Logan, Gold Coast and North Lakes locations as well as online for people in other states and areas of QLD.

In the meantime, you can read about the Certificate II in Security Operations which is the course you need to complete to apply for your Security Providers Licence. Have a burning question? Contact our friendly team of Course Advisors.
