Firefighting Training for the Workplace

The concept of firefighting training for the workplace can be daunting. The idea of facing a fire in your office is not a pleasant thought. But as any work health and safety officer will tell you, this training is essential to ensure the safety of your staff and your workplace.

There are multiple options for firefighting training in the workplace. Let’s take a look at the courses on offer and which one might best suit your company’s unique situation.

Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment

This unit covers the skills required to demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment. With this course your staff will be able to explain to clients how to correctly and safely use portable firefighting extinguishers, fire hoses and fire blankets in an emergency situation. The licensing, legislative and regulatory or certification requirements for this unit are dependent on the state and territories so you will need to confirm your company’s requirements with the relevant regulatory bodies.

The course is delivered through a four-hour face-to-face workshop scheduled at our offices or yours, so you can get all relevant staff up to speed in the same day. The cost per staff member is $175. You can learn more about this unit here.

Fire Warden Course

In order to manage your company’s work health and safety plan you will want to appoint fire wardens to ensure the safety of all workers in the event of a fire. This is the course you’ll need them to do in order to act as fire wardens for your company.

Depending on the size and layout of your business you may need to appoint multiple fire wardens to fill the needs of the emergency plan. At our facilities or yours you can book large groups of staff in, so you’ll be able to get all the future fire wardens trained up at the same time.

This course includes all the skills and knowledge your fire wardens will need in order to act within the command and coordination of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) or your chief fire warden.

The ECO’s priority is to maintain the safety of building occupants and visitors in an emergency. This means they need to be on top of the plans for an emergency including preventative measures, actions plans and recovery plans. Your fire wardens will learn how to plan for and coordinate the action plan for fire emergencies in tandem with and under the instruction of the ECO or chief fire warden.

This course is delivered through a four-hour face-to-face workshop and we can accept group bookings, so you can get multiple fire wardens up to speed at the same time. The cost per enrolment is $175. You can read more about this course here.

Chief Fire Warden Course – lead an emergency control organisation

This course is designed for your chief fire wardens. This course will teach them how to make the decisions for the safety of staff and visitors during a workplace emergency and how to give instructions on the priority order for responding to an emergency.

They will learn how to lead staff on the preparation of facility emergency response procedures, how to command, and control and coordinate the emergency response procedures. The chief fire warden may also be the point of contact for the emergency services after they arrive at the scene.

This unit is delivered over a four-hour face-to-face workshop and can be completed in group bookings so you can get all your chiefs fire wardens prepped at the same time. It costs $175 per enrolment, and you can learn more about the course here.

The kind of course you need for your workplace will depend on the size of your site and your staff, but if you’d like to know more about our firefighting courses you can check them out here or get in touch with us and we’ll talk you through some of your options.
