‘The security industry doesn’t discriminate based on age!’
‘The security industry doesn’t discriminate based on age!’
Recent ASSET security graduate, Grant Perkins has gained a lot of customer service experience throughout his career. This experience is what lead Grant to pursuing a career in security!
Before contacting ASSET, Grant started out as an English Teacher. He then moved onto roles in sales for Alliance and Suncorp Insurance before transitioning to working for QLD Rail as a Customer Service Attendant.
Grant was referred to Asset College by his employment services provider Tursa, who work closely with ASSET to find sustainable employment for jobseekers. Grant checked ASSET out online and decided this was the college for him!
Grant attended our online security career information session. Usually career information sessions are run face to face but the online sessions were implemented so that those who couldn’t attend face to face still got the chance to hear about all the opportunities in the industry! He then attended our Spring Hill campus and studied with Security Trainer, Lynn Meecham.
“It was great. I would give it 5 stars! The teacher was interactive, and I really enjoyed it. Lynn was great”.
On completion of his security training, Grant participated in ASSET’s Pre-Screening for Employment program which saw him be referred to our corporate security employer partner, DAVKI.
“Rebecca forwarded my resume onto them. I had an interview and secured a job a week after the interview! Permanent part-time!”
Grant has a couple of things he would like to share with others who are considering security as a job or a career!
“Well first thing I would say is it is probably one industry that does not discriminate based on age. In fact, it is a positive to be more mature! I feel very fortunate to get a job with DAVKI. I have training this week for my Concierge role and that is going to be very interesting. Thank you for all your help!”.
Thank you to Grant for sharing his story with us.
