RPL Is Just The Ticket

RPL qualification

Mark Grosser has completed multiple qualifications through RPL with Asset College. With his extensive experience and a resume that could rival most others he understands the value of gaining recognition for your work experience.

When deciding to undertake RPL, Mark considered his vast professional experience and the level of qualification he would need to maintain current or access future opportunities.

“I have had over 7 years experience working in Papua New Guinea employed as a Superintendent, Supervisor, and Manager (three times) including now in charge of educational reform in the Highlands of PNG which is a major project. Because my present role is project management and other roles were partly project management, I figured I would need this important qualification in the future to access an MBA.”

Mark knew his value and worth and he needed a qualification that could reflect that. The qualification he chose also opened up pathways to further learning entry to or credit for an MBA program. That qualification was the Graduate Diploma of Portfolio Management.

“This RPL qualification has augmented my present cluster of qualifications and not changed my career, but has helped to support my role here as Manager.”

Mark has extensive experience with the RPL process, and he says it’s only as hard as you make it.

“The RPL is as hard as you wish to make it, or as simple as you can make it. I enjoy expressing experiences in the narrative and researching evidence from my present and former relative ventures.”

He has this advice for those thinking about completing a qualification through RPL.

“Be tactful, assertive, and disciplined in ensuring effective time management and be very motivated. Recognise what this valuable outcome can do for you in this life!”

How does RPL work?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that assesses an individual’s existing skills and knowledge, acquired through work experience, informal and non-formal education, and other life experiences.

The process typically involves the individual providing evidence of their prior learning, such as resumes, job descriptions, certifications, portfolios, and references, and then undergoing an assessment by a qualified assessor.

The assessor will evaluate the evidence provided and determine if it meets the required standards for the specific qualification or course. If the evidence is deemed sufficient, the individual will be awarded credit or a qualification that is equivalent to the learning they have already acquired.

The RPL process is designed to be flexible and can be tailored to the needs of the individual and the requirements of the specific course or qualification.

Why is RPL such a good option for working professionals?

RPL allows working professionals to receive formal recognition and credit for their existing skills and knowledge. This can save a significant amount of time and money, as individuals can often avoid having to retake courses or training programs that teach them the skills they have already obtained through work experience.

Additionally, RPL can help to bridge the gap between an individual’s current skills and the requirements for a new job or career. It can also provide a sense of validation and accomplishment for the professional and can help to boost their confidence in their abilities.

RPL can also be a valuable tool for employers, as it can help to identify and promote skilled workers within the organisation and can also support their professional development.
